Nelson is a small, busy town located nine miles east of Alexandria.
The city of Nelson covers .66 miles of land and is home to about 200 people. The city’s electricity is provided by Alexandria Light & Power (ALP), while the natural gas comes from CenterPoint Energy. Nelson has its own Post Office and City Hall, both located on Nelson Street.
Nelson is home to several regionally known, unique events including their annual St. Patrick’s Day parade and celebration as well as the Corral’s infamous “Shoot the Minnow” outing. There are about 35 businesses that operate out of the city of Nelson.
