Boiler at the End of its Useful Life
The existing boiler pictured above is an oil fired model that has reached the end of its useful life. It is currently being backed up by an electrical boiler system due to its unreliability. The existing oil burning boiler model has been discontinued and parts are not easily available. Due to its age, many of the sub systems may need replacement in the future such as the oil burner, ignition system, aquastat, circulating pumps, burners, flame sensor, expansion tank, pressure relief valve and burner block. The challenge of this project was to design a system that would be fueled by propane and work in series with their existing electrical boiler while also providing for a possible wood fired boiler addition in the future.
The goal of this project was to replace this old inefficient oil burning boiler with a new 84% efficient propane fired boiler manufactured by New Yorker Boiler Co, USA. that would work in series with their existing electrical boiler. The new system also had to be designed to accommodate a possible wood fired boiler addition in the future.

Project Overview
We removed the old oil burning boiler, pumps, compression tank, flue piping and water piping. Then we installed a new 84% efficient heating unit manufactured by New Yorker Boiler Co., USA. Low wattage circulator pumps with isolation valves were also installed to make the system even more energy efficient.
